Jasmine will be talking about her book, Other Words for Home:
Written in free verse, this Newberry Honor Book is a lyrical, life-affirming story about losing and finding home and, most importantly, finding yourself.

When things in Jude’s Syrian home town become volatile, her and her monther are sent to Cincinnati to live with relatives.

A new school and her new label of “Middle Eastern,” an identity she’s never known before, brings its challenges.
But this life also brings unexpected surprises—there are new friends, a whole new family, and a school musical that Jude might just try out for. Maybe America, too, is a place where Jude can be seen as she really is.

The book is intended for the 4-8th grade audience but the experience is open to all ages.
